On Friday, October 4th, Peterborough Fire and Rescue visited PES to talk to the school about fire safety. Chief Ed Walker joined us for morning meeting, and members of the department visited with their fire trucks and ambulances. PES students got the opportunity to ask questions and explore the vehicles.
Many classrooms at PES offer flexible seating for its students. Flexible seating allows for student choice, collaborative learning, comfort options for a variety of learning styles and needs, and it helps students focus on the task at hand.

We were pleased to have Lucius Parshall, “The Dance Caller,”
leading us in New England Line and Circle Dance for the evening.
We were also pleased to have a group of musicians providing us
with LIVE MUSIC!!!
Families learned circle dances, line dances, and a few songs that
students have been working on in music class and with Mr. Parshall during
his residency at PES.

Perfect spring weather greeted PES gardeners on Tuesday. Cornucopia teachers Kathleen, Lauren and Master Gardener Peggy first led the students in an activity to correctly sequence the story of the life cycle of a seed. The students then cooperated to transplant kale and lettuce seedlings. Spinach, pea shoots, carrots, beets and another variety of lettuce were all planted from seeds directly into the garden beds. We were excited to find that the asparagus planted in 2015 is thriving and will be ready for eating during our gardening sessions.
We’re excited to see all that will grow this season!
PES first graders had a busy time in the gardens on Tuesday, May 15. The rain held off just long enough for all classes to complete their sessions outside. Each class participated in a scavenger hunt finding cards that represented all the things that plants need to thrive. Along the way they made a bracelet with the bead for each of five things that plants need. All students also helped transplant some parsley and make a trellis for the scarlet runner beans that were planted. Giving everything a good watering finished out our garden time.
Asparagus is making a strong showing. This is the first year that it can be picked and eaten. We’ll be snacking on some next week.
It is wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm these first graders have for helping plants grow!
