Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find introductory answers to frequently asked questions about school procedures and regulations. Should you have any further questions, please call 924-3828 or email Principal Larry Pimental or Office Manager Jill Shearer .

Hours of Operation

Q. What are the school’s hours of operation? That is, what are the hours my child will attend classes?

A. School starts at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 3:25. Students who are driven to school, should be dropped off no earlier than 8:25. Attendance is taken at 8:40 a.m. and children who arrive later than 8:40 will be considered tardy.

Contacting Classroom Teachers

Q. How can I contact my child’s classroom teacher?

A. Teachers can be reached through e-mail and voice mail. All staff are listed in the staff directory. So as not to disrupt class, we ask that, during the day, you leave a message for the teacher via e-mail or voicemail, or with the school’s administrative assistant at 924-3828. During times when school is not in session, you may want to leave a message in the teacher’s voice mail box or email the teacher.

Absences from School

Q. Whom do I call to let someone know that my child will be absent from school?

A. You can call the main number, 924-3828, and press 1 for the main office. In case the phone line is busy, you can also to notify the administrative assistant by email of your child’s absence. Please notify us before 9:30 or you will receive an automated phone message.

Early release and change of after school plans

Q. What is the best way to get this information to the school, teacher, and bus drivers?

A. PES uses an online program, Pick Up Patrol (PUP) for parents to enter any changes. Pease ask the office staff for assistance with this and we will send you an activation email and help you if needed.. We ask that this be done no later than 2:15 the day of change. Of course,  in cases of emergency changes, please call the main office at 924-3828.

Health Care Issues

Q. With whom can I speak about my child’s health care issues?

A. The school nurse, at 924-3828 ext. 1641, will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have. For more details, please visit the health information page on this website. You may also want to consult the section “Health Office Information” in the Student-Parent Handbook.

School Lunch Program

Q. Is there a lunch program available? What are the typical lunch costs?

A. Yes, Cafe Services provides meals for the entire Conval School District. You can access the monthly lunch menu on the school district website by clicking here. The National Lunch Program prices are available here. You can pay daily,weekly or monthly. Yearly discounts are available. Please make checks payable to “The Conval Food Service.” Credit is given for days that any lunch is missed due to absence from school. You may also sign up for K-12 payment Center at the Food Services page and pay by credit card or PayPal.

Parents may also join their children for lunch in the school cafeteria. Please notify the PES office early on the morning you wish to come in, so the office may include you in the daily lunch count.

Snack/lunch milk is also available for purchase.

A Breakfast Program is also available. You may be eligible for free or reduced breakfast as well as lunch.

Delayed Openings and Cancellations

Q. During the winter months, there are sometimes delayed openings and, on occasion, school is cancelled altogether due to adverse weather conditions. How can I find out about such events?

A. School cancellations are announced as early as possible and relayed by the following media outlets: WMUR Channel 9, and WKNE – 103.7 FM. You may also want to consult the web pages of WMUR Channel 9  as well as the Conval School District homepage. Another option is to elect to receive phone messages regarding cancellations and early releases through the Alert Now program. The Office Manager can help with this.

Kindergarten Registration

Q. How do I find out about Kindergarten registration?

A. Kindergarten registration is held each Spring for the following school year at the Peterborough Elementary School. Check here and in the local newspaper for date and time each year as it approaches. If you are unable to attend the registration or would like to tour the school, please call us at 924-3828. Students may be registered anytime over the summer as well. Please call us or stop in anytime.

Volunteering at the School

Q. How can I get involved as a volunteer at the school?

A. The PES PTO, the school’s parent-teacher organization, provides many exciting opportunities to volunteer and to contribute to specific events throughout the year. If you would like to be on the email list to hear about events and volunteer opportunities, please check the PTO page. If you are interested in helping out in your child’s classroom, please talk to your child’s classroom teacher. You may also want to consider getting involved in the F.A.C.T.S. arts enrichment program. The art teacher will gladly provide you with more information.
