PES first graders had a busy time in the gardens on Tuesday, May 15. The rain held off just long enough for all classes to complete their sessions outside. Each class participated in a scavenger hunt finding cards that represented all the things that plants need to thrive. Along the way they made a bracelet with the bead for each of five things that plants need. All students also helped transplant some parsley and make a trellis for the scarlet runner beans that were planted. Giving everything a good watering finished out our garden time.
Asparagus is making a strong showing. This is the first year that it can be picked and eaten. We’ll be snacking on some next week.
It is wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm these first graders have for helping plants grow!
